Notting Hill
year: 1999
verdict: 9/10
~ can't believe how time flies so fast! seems like yesterday, i was just watchin this flick and now, it was part of a history...
well, the perfect mixture of romance, comedy, light warm hearted rolled into one and the soundtrack with ronan keating's -when you say nothing at all ( altough i preferred Ms alison krauss' rendition better)- was romantic and all of it , i should say was amazing...
you got the best comedic actress of all time- Ms. Julia Roberts and the rest is history... hugh grant of course is himself, still the stuttering cute english guy who owns a quaint travel bookshop down notting hill, where he lives in this quite attractive blue door... stricking a friendship one day with the famous american actress played by julia. i mean, this cup of film is so exactly the same with Four weddings and a funeral... it's like deja vu! :)
you can also get a glimpse of misha barton- (starred in the famous tv series the o.c) while she was still a kiddo.
if you're tired, bored and just want to hang out on a lonely afternoon...then this is the flick for you>...
<.About a Boy.>
year: 2002
directed by: Chris Weitz
apres le roman de: Nick Hornby
book: 7/10
movie: 6/10
i' ve first read the book before actually watching the film. i remember buying it on a 2nd hand bookshop store... i was mesmerized right away by of course Hugh G. i think the book was hilariously funny and entertaining in a comical side of way but note that i think not all people would appreciate it. well because, it's not hollywoodishly made but more of the british comedic side. the story is about this young man, who is in his thirties, well-off, bachelor, literally doesn't have to work bec. his father who was a famous christmas carol singer, left him an awful lot of fortune, good enough for him to live the rest of his life. so, he likes to party, pretend to be young, enjoy no-commitments whatsoever but soon realizes that he's missing something in his life... love, understanding, compassion... so he meets this young boy- miserably lost in his teenage world, always being bullied by his peers, old-fashion because his mom told him to be a vegetarian, listening to karen carpenters' oldies, to save his shoes even when it's so old and torn-out already, to be understanding while her mom was completely wretched bec. of the divorce... i forgot where they exactly first met, i think it was in the park where " the duck was keeled over" (certainly very funny in the book though...). Both of them amidst different backgrounds, age gaps, beliefs... both striked a very unique and genuine friendship and so the rest of the story goes... this film can be dragging on some parts of the scene. I must say the young actor played poorly on his part... if not for Toni Collette or Rachel weisz adding up to spice up some scenes i think it fell flat... nonetheless, if you're a true h.g fan or nick hornby's for that matter, you would still like it.
also by Nick hornby:(Fever Pitch ),(High Fidelity)、(About a Boy)、《How to be Good》,(My Favourite Year),(Speaking with the Angel)。.
for this month i decided to post all films of Hugh Grant...
he's one of my favorite actors to date, despite bad rumors about him, the break up with E. Hurley. for me, he has this cute disposition and utterly interesting stammering english accent... so, here's a glimpse of some of the films he's done...
we'll start the latest which was with Drew Barrymore in
" Music n Lyrics "
year: 2006
verdict: 7/10
~probably one of the most funniest, romantic love story of that year.
beautiful soundtrack- "way back into love" , "pop goes my heart" and hugh grants' own rendition... " don't write me off".
nice setting and of course there's Drew Barrymore in it!
even though, hugh grant in this movie, seems kinda old already, i mean, you could see the saggy lines in his face already .He played the part of an old-outdated singer who used to be popular in the 70's but now, nobody listens to his songs anymore. Then came drew barrymore, she played the part of a substitute cleaning lady, cleaning hugh grants' house and one day, he stumbled upon how talented drew can be when she hums and sings, also, drew's sister is just so gaga crazy over hugh, the ultimate pop idol... so, at first drew declined hugh's offer for both of them to create a song, but eventually, they did. drew being the lyricist and hugh making out the tune. Chemistry eventually started to spark as they talked and understand each other better... hugh helped drew overcome her weak self-esteem when she was dumped by her previous boyfriend who is a famous writer, some hilarious scenes followed, but along the way, comes his popularity and the pressure to be known again by the public, therefore, hindering both of them, because drew thought that hugh was just using her for his success.
`~Paris, Je T'aime~`
year : 2007
verdict: 9/10
~On parle d'amour... each story defines a different look and aspect about . they are all short stories... some you will find amusing, others, will make you teary-eyed...some are just plain weird like you just don't understand what they're trying to portray.
each story happens on different streets- dans la rue. Among those that are interesting, -the 1st one, it talks about a typical day, getting a parking space amidst the busy streets of paris, then meeting someone out of the blue...
-the cohen brothers' story, this is funny, a tourist, while he sits around the corner waiting for a ride, he starts to read this travel book- the do's and don'ts of Paris, how you can catch a deadly disease if you kissed somebody you don't know, how you mustn't stare at all cost if couples are fighting... then,he stumbled upon this young couple having a chaotic fight to attract his attention, what he doesn't realize is that he was already being robbed.
- another scene, this muslim girl met this young parisian guy, although both are bound by diff. religion and beliefs, the sparks are right there for them to get to know each other.
- but one story that captivated me the most was the african inspired story of this man trying his luck in paris, making ends meet, he was mesmerize by this girl he met in the parking garage while he was working as a janitor ( i think), one day, while walking on the park, he became a victim of a restless gang, trying to make fun of other people, one of the deranged gang member tried to stabbed him, just like that... to the rescue, was this girl he met once a upon a time, bec. she was a medical nurse of some sort, she was on the scene trying to save his life, the sad thing was, he asked if he could have coffee with her sometime, but it was too late bec. he was bleeding profusely, finally, he died into her arms. so sad...
i also loved the theme song of this film- sang by- Feist- "La Meme Histoire".
